A mermaid theme nail look is something I’ve been wanting to do for a really long time. In early January, I found this gorgeous blue and green chunky glitter on the clearance rack at my local drugstore and immediately knew I’d be doing a water themed “something” look with it. As spring has fully arrived, I’ve seen more and more great manis with a mermaid theme to it – and I kept thinking about how I could incorporate this polish with a mermaid mani.
As luck would have it, Born Pretty Store sent me these really cool “Sea” stickers to review for them. They call them “Sea Horse 3D Nail Art Stickers Shell Starfish Nail Decalz” in their store. Once I saw the mermaids I knew immediately they’d pair perfectly with the “Mermaid’s Tale” polish from Sally Hansen and couldn’t wait to use them – and my untried polish!
The polish, I was surprised to learn, is a jelly base. I don’t have a lot of experience yet with jelly polishes with loads of glitter in them, so it took me a few nails to get the application down. What you’re seeing in the photo is two coats. Many reviews talk about needing three for opacity – I think I agree with them. One coat was definitely not enough. It does take a good chunk of time to dry too. The formula also has the top coat built in – I actually tried to stamp on top of the other two nails in the photo and it didn’t work – the top was just too slippery with the stamper I was using – so I gave up and left them alone. The polish is pretty enough to stand on it’s own anyway.
The stickers were a breeze to apply. Just peel them up with a tweezer and stick them down. Super-duper easy! They look great and wouldn’t hesitate to purchase them again. Seriously much, much easier than stamping and they are perfect – with a ton of detail. I can’t wait to use them again!
This was a really low-intensity mani. It took only as long as the polish took to dry to complete – the stickers only took a minute to apply and then I added a topcoat to seal it all in. I can’t get over how easy it was! It truly makes me want to go buy a bunch more of these decals to add to my collection! Have you any experience with nail stickers? What did you think – did they work as well as they did for me here? Let me know in the comments below.
