Directed by Todd Phillips
What it’s about:
When three friends finally come to after a raucous night of bachelor-party revelry, they find a baby in the closet and a tiger in the bathroom. But they can’t seem to locate their best friend, Doug – who’s supposed to be tying the knot. Launching a frantic search for Doug, the trio perseveres through a nasty hangover to try to make it to the church on time.
What I Liked
We are in the beginning stages of the COVID-19 lockdown here in Kansas. Times are stressful and I mention this because I needed a movie like this to watch tonight. Comedy movies aren’t generally my thing, but I genuinely enjoyed the slapstick humor in this movie. I have seen this one before, but I still laughed out loud more than once. Although in its entirety, The Hangover is rather unbelievable, as the plot unfolds, each step seems plausible enough. Maybe a little over acted, but in the realm of could happen.
And dude. Road trip. Sounds wonderful right now. Who wouldn’t enjoy a weekend hanging out with their friends in Vegas?!
Also worth mentioning is because we’ve been to Vegas (in 2011) we recognized so many places we had visited – that in and of itself was a fun journey. I love it when movies are set in a place I’ve visited.
What I Didn’t Like
The last movie we watched was also a comedy. I really didn’t like it. I surmised in that post I just don’t like comedy. Tonight’s movie proved me wrong. I do like it, I just like some realism threaded through it. Possibly it could be I enjoyed this one more due to it being a decade newer. I’m not really sure right now. Maybe I’ll figure this out before I finish this series of movies.
Overall, there wasn’t anything I can point to and say “That’s it – that’s what I don’t like” here. It was lighthearted and funny. A bit crass and morally bankrupt at times, but not ill intentioned.
My Final Thoughts
I needed the laughs from this right now. If you’re looking for the same, watch it.
