I believe being well rounded and exposing yourself to a variety of influences is healthy. It’s why I read so much and have challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone over the years to try new things; new books, new foods, new experiences. It’s recently come to my attention I haven’t seen many of the feature-length movies commonly referred to as “best” or “classics”. Now, I’ve seen plenty of movies. Just not the ones regularly referred to in other movies, books, and songs. You know – like The Godfather or Casablanca. Pop culture loves these moves and I never “get it” because I haven’t read the book(s) or seen the movie(s). It’s time to remedy this!

I did research for days trying to find a definitive list of “the best” or “must see classic” movies and found there is no such thing. (Reputable book lists abound – for example, Business Insider released a 100 books to read before you die list.) I found lists and list of great movie compilations, but they all seemed to be very skewed by opinion. I suppose, when you get down to it these lists are all opinion based. So, I chose one that felt well rounded with old and new, and a variety of genres and topics and am going with it. At least it’s a place to start, right?

There are 100 movies on this list. I’m no fool – no way I’m going to watch that many movies in a year, seeing as we barely watch a dozen a year as it is. So, I’m aiming for a bit longer to get them all in. I’ve recruited my husband to go on this journey with me and we figure at one movie a week, that puts us at about three years to get these all in; giving us room to watch new releases not on the list and take weeks off if we want. I want this to be fun – not a chore. Below is the list. Original post containing this list can be found HERE. I will watch each movie and write a review for it and work my way from 100 on down.

We will begin this journey in January 2020.

Movies in BLACK have not been watched yet.

Movies in ORANGE I’ve seen before but will watch again for this challenge.

For TV Series tracking – we LOVE this app! My husband and I have a lot of shows we like to watch but not much time to do so. We use Hobi to keep track of where we are in what tv series. Otherwise we’d be lost all the time! Hobi also informs us of when a show has a new season starting and has a great “discovery” feature as well.
